Ferrer F201, led by Michael Schumacher in the season that secured him the fourth world title and the second with the Italian team, was auctioned for $18.17m (almost 16m euros), setting a new record for a car run by the legendary German pilot who disappeared from the public scene after the ski accident in December 2013.
The sale was held at an auction organised by RM Sotheby's prior to official evidence of the Monte Carlos Grand Prix in Formia 1. Periscope.
The F2001 Ferrari became the fourth most expensive car in Formula 1. Top of the list is Mercedes W196 R Stromlinenwagen, 1955, led by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss, which was sold earlier this year for $54m (47.5m euros). (A2 Television)
