Prices of food items in Kosovo are conspicuously more expensive than in Germany

The supply of electricity from this month to 16.1% has prompted a wave of expenses in the country, further making the economic and social situation difficult.

Consumers are complaining that the prices of food items have increased markedly, in distribution with their salaries in the public and private sectors.

The average salary in Kosovo is below 600 euros, which is insufficient to cover the basic expenses of Kosovo families, received for high inflation base in the country.

Model tomatoes in Kosovo's market sell up to 1.99 euros per kilogram, while in Germany, on sale, consumers buy them for only 1.19 euros. The 1,29-euro rails in Kosovo, while in Germany, with the bid, only 0.08 euros.

In addition to food products, high prices have affected daily consumption, even a coffee has already become high prices for many citizens. In some Kosovo cities, the price of a coffee has reached up to 2 euros, rivaling European countries' prices, writes Frontonline, broadcast Periscope.

Increasing electricity has also created a chain effect in other sectors from production to smaller services. And in the absence of interference by institutions to control prices or to protect the consumer, the market has begun to mark “the prices at the expense of citizens.

The founder of the organisation “Consumer”, Ceatin Kacanik, has reacted to the continued price hikes on the Kosovo market, stressing that the problem is much deeper than simply increasing energy costs.

He says export states usually subsidise their exports, so products imported to Kosovo would have to be cheaper. But the opposite happens he says, in Kosovo prices are higher, and the consumer suffers.

Any subsidized export that comes to us as import would have to be cheaper to us. In Germany an example is the opposite, not that there is no protection in Kosovo, but that anyone who can get from the consumer without being ashamed, Kachanik claims. /Periscope/
