Journalists and journalists play an irreplaceable role in protecting democracy and promoting gender equality in the media.
The conference, organised by the AGK in co-operation with the OSCE, as well as with the support of the Council of Europe Office in Pristina and CDF, brought the safety of journalists to focus and the importance of gender equality in editorials.
The opening words were delivered by: Xhemajl Rexha, head of the Kosovo Journalists' Association Board Pascale Roussy, Chief of the Department for Democraticisation, OSCE in Kosovo, Mary Ann Hennessey, chief of the Council of Europe Office in Pristina.
The first panel of this conference addressed “Breaking Barriers” Women journalists who form equal and inclusive spaces.
Discussions at the World Press Freedom Day Conference continued with the moderate panel from the Tershan Centre, a member of the Kosovo Women Journalial Network Counseling Board.
Panelists shared their experiences on gender challenges in journalism, the leadership of women in the media, and the need for safe and inclusive environments for journalists.
The panel participated: Ardiana Thaci, journalist, Klan Kosova TV, Agnes Qorri, journalist, frillance, Maria Chereeva, representative of the European Journalists' Association Bulgaria, and Masha Mileusniq, representative of Serbia's Women Reporters' Network.
This panel was called for regional action and solidarity, to strengthen women's voices in the media and build a more fair and secure journalist for all.
At that, the second panel, moderated by Xhemajl Rexha, addressed threats facing journalists in their daily work, difficulties in access to justice and the importance of institutional responsibility for their safety.
The panel participated: Agron Bajrami, state prosecutor in the Constitutional and Appeals Prosecutor, Leotrim Gashi, Judge at the Constitutional Court in Mitrovica, Dorentina Thaqi, journalist, TV Dukaagjini, Burim Zariqi, journalist, RTV21 andall Zekij, lawyer and legal adviser at AGK.
The panel brought different prospects from journalists and representatives of the justice system, underlining the need for concrete protection and institutional co-operation to ensure a safe environment for the media. /Periscope/
