Brazilian woman who was proclaimed the oldest person in the world, Ina Canabaro Lucas, has passed away at 117 years of age, broadcasts Periscope.
She died in the Teresian Sisters Congregation in Porto Alegre, where she spent the last years of her life, BFM reported.
Ina became the oldest person in the world after the death of Japan's Tomiko Ilanda in January, who also died at the age of 116.
Canabarro Lucas was 116 years old and 326 days at the time of her death, the Teresian Sisters Congregation said.
Lucas was born on June 8, 1908.
She began her spiritual career at the age of 16, when she entered the Teresian Sisters School and became a nun at the age of 26.
During her lifetime, she served as a teacher and secretary, and in 2018, at the age of nearly 110, she received a apostolic blessing from Pope Francis.
Lucas is the second oldest nun in history, after French Lucille Randon, who lived until 118 years of age.
After Lucas' death, the oldest person in the world became English Ethel Cutterham, who is currently 115 years old 252 days, according to data from the Gerontology Research Group (GRG).
