As reported in The Guardian's report, Pakistan's revenge attacks on India following charges of hitting three military bases constitute a major escalation of the growing conflict between two armed neighbours with nuclear weapons.
The Pakistani Army spokesman said during a live broadcast on state television in the early hours of Saturday that India was targeting the Nur Khan base, Murid base and Shorkot, reports The Guardian.
Reporters Shah Meer Baloch and Hannah Ellis-Petersen report that the Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi, where the military headquarters is located, is located about 10km from the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. The images published on social networks showed flame and heavy smoke rising into the night sky.
Early morning attacks on Nur Khan, in the dense city of Rawaalpind, caused widespread panic, with citizens running in fear on the streets.
India's efforts to crack down on Rawalpind and other key military bases as well as the launch of Pakistan's counterattack on Saturday (Saturday) represent the worst escalation of their confrontation to date, drawing the two states closer to war than they have been in decades. /Periscope/
