AfD's head, Alice Weidel, reacted immediately after the vote in Bundestag, calling Merz's failure a good “day for Germany” and calling for his departure. “Merz must leave and the road should be opened for general elections,” she told reporters in Berlin.
Merz, CDU leader/ CSU's received only 310 votes -- six short of the necessary 316 majority -- in its first attempt to form the government after the coalition reached with the Social Democrat Party.
Bundestag President Julia Kloeckner interrupted the session to give parties time for consultations. The German Constitution envisions a 14-day deadline to redevelop the vote and find a candidate to secure the absolute support of parliament. /Periscope/
