French President Emmanuel Macron said he does not believe Russian President Vladimir Putin will respect the three-day self-declared ceasefire, but stressed that Europe expects a serious decision from Russia to at least a 30-day ceasefire to co-ordinate future actions.
Macron made the statement during a joint press conference after a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the Elysie Palace, the foreign media write, along with Telegrafi.
There is only one question we need to answer: Is Russia ready for a ceasefire that lasts at least 30 days in order to build a strong and lasting peace in that context?
According to him, it is essential for the international community to have the Russian president keep his promises, including those made during talks with the American administration.
“After three days of promised (the truce) which will certainly not be respected, like the previous ones, will the Russian president finally act seriously? That's what matters to us”, Macron stressed.
Makron noted that European leaders are working to reach a 30-day ceasefire to take responsibility for the next steps.
“Anyway, we are willing to support such a 30-day ceasefire and build a strong and lasting peace, taking responsibility and working in very close co-ordination with Chancellor”, he added.
We remember that Friedrich Merz is on his first foreign visit as Chancellor, meeting with President Macro in France. /Periscope/
