European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has called for the quick formation of institutions in Kosovo to enable European reforms to progress and benefit from the European Development Plan.
She stressed the importance of signing and ratification of related agreements on this plan, stressing that the release of funds depends on meeting other criteria.
The “is now in the interest of Kosovo to form its institutions quickly, in order to advance urgent European reforms. Among them, the signing and ratification of agreements related to the Development Plan should be addressed with priorities by the government and the new assembly. This would enable the release of funds from this instrument, provided all other criteria --” are met, passing RTK.
These statements were made during the debate on Kosovo in the European Parliament, on the eve of voting a resolution that includes calling for mutual recognition within dialogue with Serbia. The resolution also calls on five EU member states that still do not recognise Kosovo's independence to do so.
The author of the resolution is Eurodeputet Riho Terras, who called for the immediate removal of EU punitive measures towards Kosovo.
“We call for the immediate removal of the European Union's punitive measures. They have been unfair and unnecessary from the start. The EU finances many projects and programmes designed to support the European agenda in Kosovo. That is why we should abolish the measures and let Kosovo progress with the funds we offer“, Terras said.
The resolution, expected to be voted today, also mentions the security situation in the north of the country, demanding that perpetrators of violent acts, including the Banjska attack and the Iber-Lepenc channel, be brought to justice. Also, it regrets that Serbia has not yet prosecuted those responsible for the terrorist attack on Banjska, including Milan Radociciqi./Periscopi/
