European Union diplomacy chief Kaya Kallas after meeting in Skopje with Prime Minister Hrisitjan Mickoski warned there is potential for movement, in terms of the blockade of the Northern Macedonia's EU integration path, due to the failure to adopt constitutional changes, which Bulgaria requires.
The path to membership is not easy, and my message today is to remain in the same direction. You take the necessary steps to open the opening of entry talks”, said Kaya Kallas, EU representative for Foreign Policy and Security.
It is clear that we want North Macedonia to really move through this road and we know there are obstacles. We discussed it today so that we can find mechanisms to overcome those obstacles. However, the prime minister can clarify his ideas, but I appreciate that there is space where we can do something, I wouldn't go into detail. If we move, then we will publish it in front of the media”, said Kaya Kallas, EU representative for Foreign Policy and Security.
Mickoski, on the other hand, stressed that the country is ready for solution to its drive with Bulgaria, however it must be stable and dignified, reports Alsat-M, broadcast Periscope.
Today, I requested correct treatment. I asked for endurance. Europe will show leadership, which will bring something of value to citizens in reality. Turn confidence in the European idea, especially among young people”, said Hristija Mickoski, prime minister.
Our hands remain extended. We are open to friendship, dialogue and cooperation. But we stand firm, fair and dignified with clear orders: we are ready. Europe can rely on us and now is the time for us to start relying on Europe”, Hristian Mickoski, prime minister, stressed.
Kallas during the day has also held meetings with Foreign Minister Timco Mutunski and Defence Minister Vlado Misselovski. Kallas visits Skopje, until there is still no clear strategy that the country will exceed Bulgaria's veto of starting negotiations, which requires Bulgarians to join the Constitution of Northern Macedonia.
That condition is part of the negotiating framework, while Bulgaria insists there is nothing to be renegotiated for. Northern Macedonia, however, requires guarantees that not be repeated, with any other evental veto on bilateral issues. /Periscope/
