The mayor of Sorrentos in southern Italy, Massimo Coppola, has been put in handcuffs by Italian authorities. Coppola was arrested while taking bribes at dinner. According to current information, the 48-year-old was putting a cash envelope in his pocket at a dinner organised after a local sports event.
He allegedly promised preferential treatment to the person who handed over the amount of money, the amount of which has not been revealed. Copola, who is a lawyer, was elected mayor of Sorrentos five years ago.
The investigation also found that the same entrepreneur had previously paid Coppola and the collaborator, in some installments, the total sum of 50,000 euros in cash in cash, in terms of granting entrepreneurs another contract -- from the Sorrento municipality, linked to the optimisation service and improvement of the municipal nursery for the three-year school period 2022-2025. Guardia di Finanza conducted an initiative raid on the mayor's house, during which they found over 34,000 euros in cash.
