At a media conference, LDK deputy Armend Zemaj has said the degradation of press freedom directly relates to Kurti's approach to the media.
He has estimated that during this mandate the government has repeatedly attempted to halt free speech.
For nearly four years, Albin Kurti's power has attacked journalists, denigrated critical media and attempted to silence free speech. Journalists have even been labelled as Serbia's “collaborators”, as well as faced with strategic lawsuits (SLAPP), threats, boycotts and daily insults. This hostile approach has created a climate in which institutions are not reluctant to exercise pressure on independent media: recalling attempts to close the critical division Klan Kosova, physical attacks on journalists and continued threats to social media”, Zemaj has said.
He has shown what measures must be taken to stop this dangerous slide.
According to him, depoliticisation of the KPM, drafting new legislation regulating media, depoliticisation of the RTK board and management, financial support of the public broadcaster, harshing penalties for journalists' attackers, encouraging and promoting investigative journalism are measures to be taken.
