Gerjali: We need lobbiing and diplomacy to remove punitive measures, not euphoria, and beat up unpronounced EU tupans

The economy's recogniser, Safet Gerjaliu, estimated that European Union's measures towards Kosovo from 2023 to May 2025 have caused major damage, not only economics, but also in other areas. Gerjaliu noted that financial losses exceed 700m euros. “in 2023 until [...]
Gerjaliu noted that financial losses exceed 700m euros.
“in 2023 until May 2025 EU measures have had numerous negative effects in Kosovo. It's not just the economic aspect, but there are many other dimensions that have been hit.
I believe it has been required that Kosovo institutions do more through partnerships with international states and allies to remove these measures as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it has lasted longer than expected.
In this direction recent calculations show that the damages from these financial measures are more than 700m euros, which is a huge damage to the Kosovo economy. Also in 2025 we have a political stalemate, where we are expecting the creation of institutions”, Gerjaliu said of Online Economy, broadcast Periscope.
He said that despite the recent statement by the European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Kaya Kallas, for a gradual removal of the measures, there is still no formal decision on the issue.
“A few days ago in Kosovo when Mrs. Callas visited, has mentioned a sentence dealing with a gradual removal of the measures, but ask if there is a decision to lift the measures.
If there is no decision, what are those measures that are beginning to be removed and they are not found. Therefore, we need to analyze political or diplomatic communication, based on factors and circumstances.
Gerjaliu suggests caution at this stage and that unbased euphoria should be avoided.
“We don't have to have euphoria, as some politicians of the winning party are doing, where still without a decision beat the tupans that those measures are gone, when that's not true.
No euphoria is needed, but serious commitment to convince international partners to remove measures against Kosovo. It is essential that Kosovo show political wisdom and facilitate this decision through responsible actions, especially in the north.
It takes caution, above all, lobby and diplomacy to convince international factors to remove these measures as quickly as possible. It is very important that Kosovo after Kallas' statement show political wisdom, diplomatic engagement, maturity in the north to support The EU and relief actors who can make the decision to abolish measures and Kosovo to ease this decision”, Gerxhaliu said. /Periscope/
