Two foreign tourists are saved after 10 hours in Brezovica

A search-saving operation has been successfully closed in the late hours of last evening, as two foreign tourists lost their way and faced extreme conditions on the High Skaardus Trail cross-border trail, respectively, at line 3 near Livadhi Lake Brezovica. Around 17:35, Kosovo Mountain Peace Research Service ( The ShKMK accepted a call for emergency assistance through the SOS button of the Garmin in Reach device, after one of the tourists identified with the N.S. and C. M.C. had been hurt on foot, and bad weather had made walking impossible.
Since the area is not covered by the mobile network, the call for help was made through satellite equipment, including sending out location coordinates. A ShKMK team left immediately on the ground and arrived at the first reported location in record time. However, tourists were not found in the first coordinates after moving towards the valley in Gottovosha, in an effort to escape from the storm and seek shelter ) an action taken despite warnings of not moving.
By means of advanced communication techniques, new coordinates were provided, and the operation continued in very difficult weather conditions at an altitude of over 7,000 feet [400 m] above sea level.
Fortunately, both tourists were located and found consciously. One had injuries on the left knee, while both had signs of slight hypothermia. After providing first aid, their evacuation was launched through alternative paths because of the difficulties presented in the wrong direction in which they had moved.
The entire operation lasted 10 hours and 30 minutes and was successfully completed, thanks to the cooperation and high dedication of all participants.

The ShKMK has expressed special thanks to all participants in the operation, stressing the importance of will, humanity and professionalism, which enabled the successful completion of this rescue mission in extremely challenging conditions.
