This day was set up in commemoration of the Schuman Declaration, made on May 9, 1950 by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, who proposed a new form of political and economic co-operation in Europe a key step towards the creation of the European Union.
Schuman's statement is seen as the foundation of European integration and as a starting point for building a united, peaceful Europe without internal borders.
On this day, all EU member states organise various events, such as concerts, exhibitions, cultural and sports events, to celebrate joint achievements and further promote European co-operation. European institutions also open the doors for citizens, providing opportunities to get closer to EU work and values.
Europe's day is also celebrated in Kosovo, where numerous activities are organised by the European Union Office in Kosovo, with the aim of promoting European values and further approaching the country with the European family.
