In the same document, removal of European Union measures towards Kosovo is also required. It is said that Kosovo has fulfilled the criteria for this.
The author of the draft, Eurodeputet Riho Terras, has called these measures unfair and unnecessary from the start, follows Periscope.
“We call for the immediate removal of the European Union's punitive measures. They have been unfair and unnecessary from the start. The EU finances many projects and programmes designed to support the European agenda in Kosovo. That is why we have to abolish the measures and let Kosovo progress with the funds we offer”, said Riho Terras, rapporteur for Kosovo in the European Parliament.
The resolution welcomes Kosovo's application for membership in the European Union. It supports membership in the Council of Europe and NATO's Partnership for Peace. Five EU states that have not yet recognised Kosovo are urged to recognise its independence.
The document expresses concern about the security situation in the country's north, especially after the Banjska attack and the incident on the Iber Lepenc channel.
Parliament regrets Serbia has not yet prosecuted the perpetrators of the terrorist attack in Banjska, including Milan Radociqi.
In parallel, the European Parliament has also adopted a resolution for Serbia, where Serbia is criticised for ties with Russia and for efforts to destabilise the region.
It requires financial assistance for Serbia to be reviewed if it continues co-operation with Russia.
Serbian leaders' “Declarations about their formal commitment to European integration really sound unconvincing. While a trip to Moscow and new energy deals with Russia are being planned this week, there are no necessary reforms on the horizon that are essential to a successful European road. At the end of the day, membership in the Union is primarily the responsibility of the member state, not an alibi to avoid its responsibility for the country's” problems, said Tonino Picaula, reporting for Serbia in the European Parliament.
The resolution also criticises the so-called lulling “of the European Commission to Serbia and calls on the Commission to speak with a clearer language towards official Belgrade. / RTK
