The European Union's chief of trade said the 27-member bloc is committed to securing a trade agreement with the US based on “respect” and not on “threats”.
This comes after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 50% fee for all goods sent to the United States by the EU.
“The EU is fully committed, committed to ensuring an agreement functioning for both”, EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic said after a call with US Trade Representative Jamison Greer and Trade Secretary Howard Lutnick.
The EU-US trade is matchless and should be guided by mutual respect, not by threats. We are willing to defend our interests”.
Earlier Friday, Trump expressed impatience at the pace of ongoing trade negotiations B E-US, saying his plan to raise tariffs on June 1st was set, writes BBC, broadcast Gazeta Express.
