Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan has signaled that he will not run for re-election when his current mandate ends in 2028, marking the beginning of the end for one of the most dominant political figures in Turkey's modern history.
Speaking after the recent municipal elections, Erdogan, 70, said it would be the last vote held under his leadership, adding: “I have no intention of being re-elected or run again for president”.
Erdogan, who has served as president since 2014 and has previously held the prime minister's post for a decade, used the moment to stage deep constitutional changes./Periscopi/
