Following the decision of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom on April 15th that a woman's legal definition is based on biological sex, the Federation of Football in England has removed that policy and says only those born biologically women will be allowed to play.
This is a complex topic and our attitude has always been that if there was a material change in the law, science or policy functioning in basic football, then we would review it and change it if it was necessary”, the FA said.
And we understand that this is going to be difficult for people who just want to play the game they want in the gender they're identified with, and we're contacting registered transgjirate women who actually play to explain the changes and how they can continue to stay involved in the game. ”
Other sports organisations, such as the Scotland Football Federation, England Netball and England and Wales's Cricket Board, are expected to take the same step.
The FA confirmed that there are currently fewer than 30 transgjirate women registered at an amateur level and none in professional football. /Periscope/
