This highlighted regrass is a direct consequence of irresponsible governance and authoritarian tendencies of this power. This power has repeatedly shown clear trends in destroying the possibility and scope of reporting its violations and its exhibitors. RSF's report highlights political interference in public media and pressures on private media, citing the appointment of persons close to power at key positions on Kosovo Radio (RTK) and ongoing attacks on independent media.”, It says in the communique.
COMMU NICHES FOR MEDIA
The Democratic League of Kosovo expresses deep concern over the drastic decline in media freedom in our country, as recorded in the World Press Freedom Index for 2025 of the organisation Reporters Without Borders (RSF). Kosovo has dropped 24 places, ranking 99th out of the estimated 180 countries, the worst in the region -- an alarming indicator of the deterioration of the media environment in the country.
This outstanding regress is a direct consequence of irresponsible governance and authoritarian tendencies of this power. This power has repeatedly shown clear trends in destroying the possibility and scope of reporting its violations and its exhibitors. RSF's report emphasises political interference in public media and pressure on private media, citing the appointment of persons close to power at key positions on Kosovo Radio Television (RTK) and ongoing attacks on independent media.
Moreover, journalists in Kosovo face constant threats and physical attacks, while responsible institutions often fail to offer adequate protection and prosecute perpetrators of these works. This climate of uncertainty and intimidation has created an environment where self - interest is becoming standard, seriously jeopardizing the citizens ' right to free and impartial information.
The LDK considers media freedom as one of the fundamental pillars of democracy and development of society. The media licenses from Vetevendosje and its expansion, as well as the practices of intervention in media independence, must stop and stop immediately. The relevant institutions must take concrete steps to ensure the safety of journalists and the free functioning of the media.
The LDK engages in a Kosovo where free and independent media are guaranteed and protected, as well as will continue to work on restoring democratic standards and respecting fundamental human rights in our country.
