COMM SOVA in the World Press Freedom Index has dropped for 24 countries, this is the result of the Kurti government who throughout the term chose transparency propaganda, control over criticism and fear of freedom.
According to Reporters Without Borders' report, Kosovo falls 75th in 99th position. This decline is an alarm for every citizen who believes in democracy.
This is not just an index in an international report, it's a mirror of four years where Kurt's power has attacked journalists, denigrated critical media and tried to silence the free word.
Over the past four years journalists have been labeled “co-workers of Serbia” have faced indictments, threats, boycotts and daily insults. This disk today has become the norm and is the result of LVV's four-year behaviour in power. This discurs and this behavior is the rodent ruining the foundations of democracy.
Today, Kosovo ranks 99th among the 180 countries near Mongolia and Mozambique, which shows that our society today is more afraid and less free. Democracy is not built by silent journalists, it begins exactly where power is questioned and answered.
As long as LVV is holding the institutions hostage, as a country we are degrading in every sphere. Therefore, it is important to establish institutions that deal immediately with the problems of citizens and journalists. There's democracy where there's no free media.
Urgent action like this is needed:
• KPM depoliticisation,
• Establishing the KPM law in co-operation with the Council of Europe and civil society,
• RTK board and management depoliticisation,
• Raise budget for RTK,
• Acceleration of punishments for those who attack journalists,
• Encourage and support for investigative journalism are major contributors to the fight against corruption.
