Ten patients with symptoms showing llaptospirosis have been treated at the Infectious Disease Clinic of the University of Sarajevo Clinical Centre (KCUS) in recent days, media reports, citing unofficial sources, broadcast Periscope.
The first cases were recorded in the Novi Grad municipality of Sarajevo, most precisely in the Dobrinje neighbourhood, where citizens began contacting doctors with symptoms such as high fever, severe fatigue and high inflammation and liver parameters.
To prevent the spread of this infectious disease, spring portal is currently being carried out in Novi Grad, Centar and Ilid08) municipalities. At the same time, controls over building managers, markets and public areas have been strengthened, Klx writes.
What is luptospirosis?
Luptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria of the Llapspitra gender. Most often, it is transmitted through contact with water, land, or food contaminated by infected animals, especially rodents. People can be infected if bacteria enter the body through damaged skin or mucosa (eyes, noses, mouth).
Disease symptoms include high temperatures, headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, vomiting, and, in more serious cases, liver, kidney, and meningitis. If left untreated in time, lettuce can have serious health consequences and even death.
Experts recommend avoiding potentially contaminated contact, use of protective equipment in high-risk areas, and regular implementation of damage control and hygiene conservation.
