Competition Authority Rejects LDK Meeting Invitation

In an official statement, the decision on non-participation is said to be based on the constitutional and legal mandate of the Competition Authority, as well as on the need for preserving institutional independence and impartiality, which is a fundamental pillar of the institution's functioning and integrity.
“Based on Article 21, paragraph 1 of Law No. 08/ L-056 for the Protection of Competition, Authority is independent agency that responds to Kosovo Republic Assembly for its work. Further, paragraph 3 of this article clearly determines:
Any interference, political, public or private intervention that could affect the independence or impartiality of the” Authority is prohibited.
This provision underlines the necessity of the Authority acting solely on the basis of its law and competencies, without being involved in political forms, ad-hoc debates or initiatives which are not conducted in line with official state structures” is said in the report.
On the other hand, by the Competition Authority state that, under the current circumstances where the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo is not constitutionalised, the Authority is not in an institutional position to interact with parliamentary groups, individual MPs or political organisations outside the framework of the Parliament.
“Competition Authority remains dedicated to acting professionally, impartially and objectively, ensuring the protection of free competition and market functioning according to economic principles and legitimacy. We stress that the Authority's co-operation with state institutions is taking place at any time, within the framework of the legal mandate and in the function of public interest, especially when the regular functioning of the Republic of Kosovo” concludes the announcement. /Periscope/
