On World Press Freedom Day, the British Embassy in Pristina has reconfirmed the United Kingdom's early commitment to Media Freedom.
Through an official text on the social network, Facebook, calls for Kosovo's new government to protect and maintain the strength of its democratic institutions, including ensuring a free and modest environment for journalists to do their vital work.
Meanwhile, they add that a free media is an essential component for a healthy democracy.
“A free and independent media is an essential component of a healthy democracy, leading to greater stability and prosperity. Without the ability to express and spread specific information and free thinking, there can be no accountability or any informed public disks. Worldwide, harassment of journalists, particularly women journalists, remains a challenge for free and fair reporting”.
“We are deeply concerned by Kosovo's fall in the RSF World Press Freedom Index over the past two years following its impressive results earlier. Kosovo's new government must protect and maintain the strength of its democratic institutions, including ensuring a free and humble environment for journalists to do their vital work, and working with media organisations and civil society to draft a new Law for the Independent Media Commission”. /Periscope/
