In the ongoing battle against the flames Thursday, Israel is operating “Elad Squadron”, while several aircraft from outside are on the way to help in its efforts.
A rescue helicopter from Cyprus has already landed in Israel and will soon land the plane from Croatia. Two other planes from Italy will also arrive later.
This team includes American aircraft Air Tractor AT-802. These planes can carry about 3,000 liters of fire resistant materials and are suitable for complex mountain terrain. They are known for their precision and maneuverability, but they are limited to the amount of material they can launch in any attack.
Israel is also using a converted C-130 Hercules aircraft equipped with MAFFS 2. This system allows the aircraft to hold about 12,000 liters of fire retarding and to release it accurately on the fires, it reports. The Jerusalem PosAnd transmits Periscope.
His main advantage is the ability to operate in poor eyesight and at night. However, it requires a long track of lift and landing and is not suitable for all types of terrain.
As part of international aid, Croatia was the first to announce its support and is sending CL-415 aircraft, also known as “SuperScopers”.
These planes, produced in Canada, can collect water from such natural resources as lakes and seas and hold some 6,000 gallons [6,000 L] per flight. They are particularly effective in water source areas, but are less suitable for dry regions or mountainous areas.
French aircraft and Cypriots
France is expected to send an 8400 converted Dash aircraft for fire missions. These planes can carry about 10,000 liters of fire resistant materials and are known for their speed and ability to cover large areas. They are more suitable for flat terrain, but require suitable lift and landing tracks.
Cyprus is contributing to this effort by aircraft such as Israel's Air Tractor AT-802. This regional co-operation enables a faster and more efficient response to cross-border emergencies.
The massive fire continues to burn the Jerusalem area, with more than 120 fire crews working to bring the flames under control. So far, about 15 people have been easily injured. Most have already been released to their homes. The estimated cost of the fire is expected to reach hundreds of millions of dollars. /Periscope/
