According to data from the European Organisation for Air Navigation Security (EUROCONTROL), Istanbul Airport was the most loaded among airports in Europe in the period from 21 April to 27 April.
Istanbul Airport ranked first among Europe's most busy airports with an average of 1,482 daily flights in this period, according to the European Aviation Review Report published yesterday, Anadolus reported.
The number of flights to Istanbul Airport increased by four percent compared to a year ago and 24 percent compared to the same period in 2019.
Istanbul Airport is followed by Amsterdam Schiphol with 1,419 daily flights, London Heathro with 1,357 flights, Paris Charles De Gaulle with 1,344 flights and Frankfurt with 1,314 flights.
On April 17th, Istanbul Airport, which was the second largest airport in Europe last year, began simultaneous operations on three tracks.
With this infrastructure, it became the first in Europe with three tracks and second in the world, after the United States.
In 2024, Istanbul Airport served some 80 million passengers, making it Europe's largest and second most loaded airport, according to the Directorate General of State Airports (DHMI).
Last year, it also became Europe's largest cargo centre, according to the 2024 annual traffic report of the International Airport Council (ACI) Europe. /Periscope/
