A powerful 7.5-magnitude earthquake in Richter has hit the southern coast of Argentina and Chile, causing tsunami alarms.
Chilean authorities have announced red alerts and ordered evacuation of the Magallan region and Chilean Antarctica, writes subway.co.uk.
The quake took place at a depth of ten miles [10 km], with an epidex of some 20 miles [259 km] south of Ussuaia, Argentina. After the main quake, there are also two pastries of magnitude 5.4 and 5.7 broadcasts. Periscope.
The areas affected by evacuation include Puerto Williams, Puerto Natales, Punta Arenas, and Chilean bases in Antarctica. The tsunami sirens were heard in the port city of Puerto Williams.
According to the U.S. Cunami Warning Service, waves are expected to range from 1 to 3m and may strike within a radius of 300 miles [300 km] of the epicentrall.
No casualties or material damage reported so far, but authorities have called on residents to leave the coastal areas and seek higher ground.
