The attacks included an attack Tuesday evening on a school sheltering hundreds of displaced Palestinians, who killed 27 people, said officials from Al-Axa Hospital, including nine women and three children.
It was the fifth time since the beginning of the war that a school in central Gaza has been attacked.
An early morning attack on another school transformed into a shelter in the town of Gaza killed 16 people, according to officials at Al-Ahli Hospital, while attacks on targets in other areas killed at least 16 others.
The new bloodshed comes days after Israel adopted a plan to intensify military operations in the Palestinian enclave, which would include the invasion of Gaza, the maintenance of occupied territories, the forced shift of Palestinians to southern Gaza, and the takeover of relief control along with private security companies.
Israel is also calling tens of thousands of reserve soldiers to implement the plan.
Israel says the plan will be gradual and will not be implemented until US President Donald Trump wraps up his visit to the region later this month.
Any escalation of fighting is likely to increase the death toll in the devastating war that now enters its 20th month.
And with Israel already controlling about 50% of Gaza, increasing its control in the territory, indefinitely, it can open the potential for a military invasion, which would raise questions about how Israel plans to govern the territory, especially at a time when it is considering how to implement Trump's vision to take control of the Strip. /Periscope/
