The 24th attempt today: Will the Assembly be unblocked?

Today, on 31 May, MPs will gather at 10:30, in the 24th attempt to form the country's highest legal body. Although steps for the institution began as early as April 15th, the blockade has already entered the second month, with no signs of solution.

As in past hearings, opposition parties PDK, LDK, AAK and the Serbian List have not proposed members for the Commission, which will organise the election of the Speaker of the Parliament through the secret vote, thus failing to proceed with procedures.

In previous sessions, 55 MPs voted for the composition of this commission, one opposed, and there was no abstention. In the absence of quorum, Chief Agent Avni Dehari stopped working on the Parliament.

The clashes between political parties continue, on mutual charges of institutional stalemate. The PDK and AAK have refused Albulen Hadziu's candidacy for Parliament Speaker, while the LDK has declared the solution could come only through a political agreement.

Despite a coalition invitation that Vetevendosje had made to LDK weeks ago that was now rejected by the VV is stressing that they do not need partners to complete the transition.

“Now the Parliament is 120 deputies and should be constitutionalised by 120 deputies. There's no need for partners. Each has its share of responsibility”, has declared Besnik Bislim, deputy prime minister in office, in an interview for Deutsche Welle.

According to him, “has no government crisis in Kosovo, but there are obstacles to choosing the heads of the Assembly”.

There are no signals from VV ranks that they will withdraw from Albulen Hadziu's candidacy, nor from the proposal for changing the form of voting to elect the Speaker of the Parliament. Haxhiu, in all rounds of voting, has failed to secure more than 57 votes, while 61 is needed for elections. /Periscope/
