From 2021 to 2023 over 105 thousand removed from Kosovo

Essential problems for citizens, who have been weighing their lives a long time now, have also increased migration, which, according to official statistics, for three consecutive years, from 2021 to 2023, has emptied Kosovo for about 105 thousand people.

“Brenda three years, from the beginning of 2021 to the end of 2023, over 105 thousand citizens have left Kosovo. In 2021 over 42,000 citizens left, over 41 thousand in 2022 and 21.244 in 2023. The data on the number of Kosovo citizens who left the country during 2024 will be published during June of this year. ”

The population's capture, Webi Mujku from the Institute for Social Policy Development, calls it an alarm, even for the fact that it directly affects the country's economic, social and health development.

“... the number of people leaving is huge. If we see the last census of the population, Kosovo lacks about 350 thousand inhabitants. This is an alarming figure for such a short period of time. This directly affects population contraction. For five years Kosovo is in age. This affects economic, social and health development...”, Mujku said

There are many reasons citizens force to leave their homeland for a better life, says economist Alban Hashan, who emphasises the labour market and the impasses in the health system and in the field of education, where the decline of quality has been found. “... The effect is too great. This is also counted in the last census. Partly, this is attributed to migration. Since 2015, when Germany was even cheaper for people to get work permits. A small country like Kosovo has scored a record leaving citizens west in 2014, 2015 and 2021. In this influx of the population, it should be especially marked in 2015, when over 74 thousand citizens had migrated.
