Negotiations on ending the 20-month war in Gaza so far have failed to achieve some progress, with Israel restarting operations in Gaza in March, ending the six-month ceasefire.
“Gaza is the most hungry country on Earth”, said Jens Laerke, spokesman for the UN Agency for humanitarian aid, O CHA, reports REL, broadcast Periscope.
It's the only designated area... a state or territory defined within a state of state... where the entire population is threatened by famine. 100 percent of the population is threatened by famine”, he said, rejecting Israeli claims that say otherwise.
During a media conference in Geneva, Laerke detailed the difficulties facing the UN to send humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
In recent days, Israel has partially facilitated the full blockade of aid on Palestinian territory, which it imposed on March 2nd.
Laerke said 900 trucks with humanitarian aid have been authorised by Israel for entry into Gaza since the blockade was partially removed.
But, so far, only 600 trucks have sent aid to the Gaza border section, and only a small number of them have been received by Palestinians.
This week, the Humanitarian Gas Foundation (GHF) organisation supported by Israel and the United States this week has distributed aid from several centres in the Gaza Strip.
This organisation has faced charges that it helps Israel meet its military goals.
Asked about the operations of this organisation, Laerke said “is not working. I'm not meeting people's needs. It's creating chaos” /Periscope
