Trump said this during his meeting with reporters at the White House, Ukrinform reports, citing CNN, it's on the telegraph.
We're meeting Putin now as we speak. We've got a lot going on and I think we're going to end up with a lot of good deals, including tax deals and trade deals, but we're gonna try to get out of the war. I think we're very close to”, Trump said.
Trump also stated that there is no “ ” for reaching an agreement, but that he wants “to do it as soon as possible”.
CNN notes it conflicts with previous statements by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who warned last week that the US would abandon their efforts to mediate peace “within days” if there were no significant progress.
Donald Trump also said it is “possible” that he meet with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky on Saturday, as the two leaders will go to Vatican City to attend Papa Francisco's funeral.
A day earlier, Trump said there are “afates for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, stressing that Kiev and Moscow should sit at the negotiating table.
These comments were made during a press conference at the White House, according to The Guardian.
