Earlier, US President Donald Trump posted a 10% minimum fee for most US imported goods, with a higher rate of 20% for the European Union.
Von der Leyen said the consequences of American tariffs would be “extraordinary”.
The global economy will suffer massively, uncertainty will increase and cause further spread of protectionism”.
“The consequences will be heavy for millions of people worldwide, including the most vulnerable countries, which are now facing some of the highest tariffs imposed by the US”, she said. /Periscope/
