Rubio: Ukraine-Russia deal must happen soon

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said on Sunday that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine must take place soon, adding that the Trump administration will spend next week trying to determine whether it will continue as mediator. This must happen soon. We can't [...]
This must happen soon. We cannot continue to devote time and resources to this effort if it doesn't take place”, Rubio said of the NBC's “Meet programme the Press”.
This week will be a really important week in which we have to decide whether this is an attempt we don't want to keep getting involved in, or whether it's time to focus on some other”, he added.
Rubio's statements have come a day after President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Voldymyr Zelensky met in Rome during Pope Francis's funeral.
Zelensky has said the meeting could result in historicity if it gives the kind of peace he hopes for and a White House spokesman has called it “very productive”.
Rubio has said Washington has stopped imposing sanctions on Russia to allow the operation of diplomacy, but has warned Trump has options to deal with any party resisting a peace agreement.
If it doesn't happen, then as a national state, there are options we have for those we consider responsible for not wanting peace”, the State Secretary has said.
But we prefer not to get to that stage yet, because we think this closes the door to diplomacy”, he added. /Periscope
