A large number of Ulcinj citizens are participating in a massive protest against what they consider to be Ulcinj's “sequentine”. The protest is organised by the Ulcinj municipality, which opposes the Montenegrin government's decision to give a portion of the coast to Arab investors, stressing that they are not involved in the decision-making and consultations process.
Under the Montenegrin government's agreement, a 12km beach section will be given to investors for 99 years. This decision has caused concern to the citizens and representatives of the municipality.
“Protesta is organised in response to the attempt to rent and privatise public coastal spaces, including the Big Beach a common asset and the identifying symbol of Ulcinj and its residents”, is highlighted in the announcement of the Ulcinj municipality.
The municipality suggests that representatives of all political parties in the municipality's Assembly are participating in this protest, civil society from all over the trains, as well as numerous citizens united to protect public property and the future of the city.
Because of the situation created, the official celebration of Ulcinj Day has been cancelled, while the Municipal Assembly solemn meeting will be held in front of citizens, within the protest. /Periscope
