26 years ago, Drenica's land was covered by a never-ending pain.

In Steutica, Verboc and surrounding villages, Serbia's genocide regime brutally executed 275 Albanians -- innocent children, old men, women and men only because they were Albanians and loved freedom.

This massacre, one of the most terrible of the war, remains an open plague on mankind's conscience and an act that calls for justice. This macabre crime was an attempt to wipe out the population of this area.

But on that day, when monstrous crime claimed the lives of many Albanians, the light of freedom was kept alive by KLA fighters, led by hero Ilaz Kodra. They did not withdraw, they did not give up. They became a shield to the people, so 40 of them with their blood perpetuated our freedom.

Today, we remember not only the martyrs of this massacre but honor the endurance, sacrifice, and dignity of those who fell to gain our freedom today.

May the glory forever be for the NLA martyrs and the memory of the martyrs of State, Verboci, Drenica and all of Kosovo!
