The heavy clouds of rain that hit Skopje last night triggered increased levels of the Markova River, leading to its exit from bed in several areas and floods of property.
According to the Regional Centre for Crisis Management in Skopje, the river has come up over the bridge near the Lubosh settlement and caused floods in several houses, warehouses and industrial objects in the villages of Studnikan and Batic, as well as in parts of Pentia.
Floods have also been reported at a section of Boris Trajkovski's boulevard near the Pintija neighbourhood. Local authorities in University and Kisela Vodu have intervened in the field to manage the situation, while emergency services have been engaged in the most affected areas, Euronews reports. The Euronews Albanian correspondent from Skopje suggests that, at night, the emergency number 112 has received reports of flooding in several residences in Gorno Lisica, in the Aerodrom municipality, where the local government office has intervened.
The Skopje City Fire and Rescue Brigade, Skopje City Public Enterprises and Local Power Units are participating in rescue and crisis management operations. Authorities are monitoring the situation and are on alert for any further deterioration of the weather conditions.
