The United States representative to the United Nations Security Council, John Kelley, has asked Kosovo and Serbia to work on easing tensions and refrain from escalating rhetoric between the two countries.
During his speech, he said that the final purpose between the two countries should be mutual recognition.
“Kosovo and Serbia must work on easing tensions, and refrain from the escalating rhetoric between them and their region for a more effective future”.
The ultimate goal must be mutual recognition. The normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is central to the Western Balkans. America and the global community are safer when countries resolve their conflicts peacefully and when the climate for international investment is created”, Kelly said, Clankosova.tv reports.
Kelly also spoke of UNMIK issue in Kosovo, where she said it is already time to close U n NMIC.
“U n NMIC no longer plays a role in governing Kosovo. U n NMIC has too many staff in terms of U n NMICs encourage that meetings are closed doors and we believe that this reporting should be reduced to a 1-year-old base”.
“Time to shut down U n NMIC's here. We recommend that UNMIK begin transferring its functions to other UN agencies on the ground that have better function for this job, so that the process towards the end of the mission is gradual and not unpredictable”./Periscopi/
