Duda Balje, like any other MP, has the constitutional right to express her political will without being subjected to pressure or intimidation. In a democracy, MPs are not obliged to vote in a certain way only because part of the public opinion or some of the biggest party exhibits demand it. Above all, as a woman in politics and as representative of a minority community, she deserves dual respect for her decision-making autonomy.
Disillusionment, lynching and slander directed at an MP, the more a woman and representative of a minority community, are not only unacceptable but also constitute a major regrass for democratic standards.
The Assembly is failing to be constitutionalised, not because of an MP, but because of the lack of a political agreement.
