Kosovo marks Constitution Day

As the highest judicial act, this document guarantees the fundamental rights and freedoms of all citizens of the state.
Much of the Constitution stems from the Ahtisaari Plan and offers specific rights to minority groups.
“We, the people of Kosovo, determined to build a future of Kosovo as a free, democratic and peace-loving country, which will be home to all its citizens; Dedicated to creating a state of equal citizens, which will guarantee the rights of each citizen, civil liberties and equality of all citizens before the law; Pledging Kosovo to be a state of economic prosperity and social prosperity; Sure that the state of Kosovo will contribute to the stability of the region and across Europe, establishing good neighbourly relations and co-operation with all neighbouring states; Entrusted that the state of Kosovo will be worthy member of the world's family of peace-loving states; With the aim of Kosovo's state being included in Euro-Atlantic integration processes; Consistently, we adopt the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo”, it says in pre-ambles of the Kosovo Constitution, Periscope.
Kosovo's constitution has 14 chapters and 162 articles.
In definition of the state, it stresses that the Republic of Kosovo is an independent, sovereign, democratic, unique and inseparable state, and that there are no territorial claims against any state or part of any state and will not seek to join any state or part of any state.
Since 2008 this day has been marked as an official holiday in Kosovo.
