Council for the Protection of Freedoms and Human Rights ( KMDLNj has voiced his opposition to the arrest of 12 activists who protested in front of the Office of Energy Regulatory ( ZRGE, rejecting the rise in electricity prices.
According to KMDLNj, this increase, which has reached a total of 146% during Kurt 2 governance, is unacceptable and unaffordable to most Kosovo citizens.
KMDLNj has recalled the public opinion that ZRE has exercised injustice against citizens for a 15-year period, inflating bills to compensate for energy spending by the Serbian community, which has also been recorded by competent courts, but has not been implemented by institutions. And so, KMDLNj has accused ZRE of ethnic discrimination, stressing that past governments have made no move to protect citizens.
The organisation has warned that the new rise in electricity prices will cause chain effects, affecting prices of all products and services. KMDLNj has invited Kosovo citizens to participate massively in the protest, warned on April 5th 2025, to contest this increase and to seek accounts from the institutions for the theft ZRE has made for 15 years.
KMDLNj has also strongly condemned the arrest of protesters, demanding their immediate release and taking legal measures against ZRE representatives and the relevant ministry that have allowed such a discriminated policy. The organisation called on institutions not to instrumentalise the Kosovo Police and respect citizens' fundamental right to peaceful protest.
