The Albanian president expressed gratitude to the European High Representative for the firm commitment and special attention he has devoted to the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU, as stated in the presidency's press release, reports TopChannel, broadcast Periscope.
The European Union's expansion in the Western Balkans was assessed as the most effective geopolitical tool, essential to maintaining security and stability in the region. Begaj reaffirmed that Albania will continue to play a pro-active role in regional co-operation in the Western Balkans, acting as a stabilising factor. The head of Albanian State expressed thanks to Kallas for the Development Plan and the financial support the European Union has given to Albania and the region.
On the other hand, Begaj confirmed that Albania is committed to preserving EU core values: respecting fundamental rights.
The Albanian president, during his conversation with Kallas, voiced the country's intention to open up all the chapters within this year and close the technical part of the negotiations, completing chapters by 2027 and full membership in 2030.
Albania's “commitment to the strategic goal of EU integration remains a key priority”, the Albanian head of state said.
As for progress in reforms enabling the country's EU membership, Begaj guaranteed Kallas that Albania remains fully committed to the transformation programme and reforms aimed at improving the political system, strengthening economic stability and creating favourable conditions for the welfare of citizens.
