The European Parliament has approved the annual report on the implementation of Foreign Policy and Security, praising Albania's achievements on the road to European integration. The document, drafted by Eurodeputt David McAllister, lauds the successful conclusion of the screening process (screening) and the opening of the first negotiating chapters in 2024.
The report highlights Albania's ambition to complete membership negotiations by 2027, inviting the country to intensify reforms in key areas, particularly in justice, the fight against corruption and organised crime. The European Parliament welcomes Albania's commitment to reforms and praises full compliance with EU foreign policy, including measures against Russia and Belarus,”, the report said.
Another key element of the document is clear support for justice institutions, in particular for the SPAK, and warning against any attempts to affect their independence. The importance of a functional political plurality and a competitive opinion is highlighted. The constructive dialogue between the majority and opposition is required to overcome political polarisation and ensure comprehensive democratic processes,” is further highlighted.
The report also values respect for national minority rights, including the Greek, Roma and Egyptian communities, as well as Albania's commitment to security and defence. /Periscope/
