Why was Erjon Veliaj held in prison? Hanging Up Appeal's Decision

This is one of the arguments of the special appeals judge, Mr. Engert Pelumbi, in the white-lighted decision confirming the second-degree prison arrest for Mayor Erjon Veliaj, suspected of corruption in nine cases and money laundering, reports TopChannel, broadcast Periscope.

The decision was handed over to the mayor's lawyers during this Tuesday, and there, as reasoned in the letters you have exclusively, the court also refers to the office's behaviour while he was arrested, where he made calls from the prison's internal number.

Another risk counts on the threat of the investigation group. For the danger of the influence of justice when investigating it is a senior official, the appeals court refers to a European court ruling in the Podeski case against San Marinos, and the precedent for strong ties of supporters.

So, the position of the investigaters, the appeal in Albania says, is appreciated “as the most powerful person, the greater the potential to undermine the investigation or exert inappropriate pressure”.

Regarding the suspect's escape allegations, appeals judge Engert Pelumbi says the investigation's financial opportunities are assessed in line with his numerous movements, confirmed by the system. This conclusion is not even relatable to the fact that the person under investigation is a family head and father of a minor child, the judge adds. The judge points to yet another danger - that of recivilizing.
