Coalition V Divides LEN

The question of how they will compete in local elections has highlighted disagreements within the Albanian coalition in Northern Macedonia, V LEN. While Health Minister Arben Taravari has been wide open with criticism, some of the other partners are still optimistic that they will compete together in the elections. At the moment, no one questions the survival of the government majority, while analysts say disagreements have been prompted by the ruling race within the coalition.

On the eve of local elections, to be held in October of this year in Northern Macedonia, disagreements within the V coalition LEN are visible. But, at the moment, none of them question the stability of the ruling majority, where it is partner with parties V. MRO- DPMNE and ZNAM, REL reports Periscope.

Four parties forming coalition V LEN Bisa, Alliance for Albanians, Democratic Movement and Alternatives joined in sending the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), led by Ali Ahmeti, to opposition after a two-decade period in power.

They now claim the ruling majority is stable, even though they acknowledge there is disagreement within the coalition parties.

These disputes were made public when the presentation in local elections was disputed and who and what position they would compete for in this election.

“We currently do not go out and plan to leave the government. I said there's some frustration, it's more because of designation within the parties VLEN. It's hard with one party, not with four parties. We need better timing. The impression on the people is bad, that the V is bad. LEN does not function properly”, Health Minister Arben Taravari said on April 1st.

He argued his attitude by using a survey conducted by them, which, according to him, shows that Government enjoys public confidence of 70 percent, while only 30 percent of citizens are satisfied with the V coalition. LEN.

Taravari, representative of the Alliance for Albanians for whom he had been on trial against Zijadin Sela, is the only one of the four leaders of the V LEN, which has different attitudes. The other leaders are Izet Mexhini from the Democratic Movement, Zeqiri Ibrahim from the Alternative and Bilal Kasam from Besa.

While Taravari's criticism may be interpreted as a possible sign of his departure from the coalition, disagreements at the V LEN so far does not bother V MRO-DPMNE. From the ruling party, for REL, said briefly that “coalation with V LEN is stable”

Moses and Abraham were certain that they would survive the battle.

“Zoomca is stable”, was the answer REL received from Mexhidi, who is also the first deputy prime minister in Government and minister of the environment.

The head of the alternative, Deputy Zeqiri Ibrahimi, unlike Taravari, thinks that “within existing numbers and conditions, the coalition functions normally and without problems”.

There's probably room for correction, but we're too far from functioning. Of course, this is a debate in which we may have different opinions and perceptions, but I don't think it will affect our overall relationship and our desire to go together to local elections”, said REL Zeqiri Ibrahim, who became the leader of the Alternative after Afrem Gashi was elected president of the Parliament.

“The VLEN has been formed as a counterweight against DUI, which is unacceptable and corrupt, and this unifying value is stronger than any change of opinion about how any segment of the Government works, he added.

The next few days are expected that V leaders LEN have an appointment while their clashes continue. One of the themes is DUI who and how he communicated with them.

Besa immediately denied this, claiming that “as President Bilall Kasami, not one of the other from the Besa Movement has no communication with DUI”.

Kasam earlier spoke in detail about his disputes with Taravari, emphasising differences over candidate lists for advisers in local elections.

He (Tarari) thinks that if each party competed separately, we would get more votes to win that legitimacy even in local elections. But all other subjects within the coalition dominated the idea that the value of any particular subject is greater as part of the coalition than if it were out of coalition”, Kasami said on March 27th.

Positioning for local elections?

For political analysts, disagreements between V partners LEN is still not at a level that may suggest the coalition is moving towards “debacle”.

“In the meantime, some of them rightly, some unjustly, have expectations or at least perception that their real power is not reflected within power. Also, and pressure from party members and officials, who look much longer to the realization of pre-election promises, puts some political leaders in the coalition under pressure. Mostly, I think it's Arben Taravari who expects much more power than there is”, says political analyst Sefer Selimi.

If they do not overcome disagreements, according to Selimi, a possible scenario in this coalition is that the other three leaders can try to isolate Taravari and continue without it.

If there's an exit, alone DUI will benefit from this, says analyst Vladimir Bozinovski. He says public disagreements have been prompted by the appetite for local elections.

“as local elections approach, each of these four parties has its own political appetite. However, because they are in power and have a good opportunity to stand up to DUI, but only if they act together, I still don't see that disagreements are at that level that can threaten domestic relations”, Bozinovski says.

“This is seen as the position of these four parties within the coalition for local elections”, Bozinovski says, adding that the party's mistake is that they continue to act as four separate parties.

Local elections in northern Macedonia will be held in October of this year. Coalition V LEN was formed in preparation for parliamentary and presidential elections in April and May last year.

Prior to public disagreements, it was announced that they would appear together in local elections, as well as that the process for transforming the coalition into a single political party would begin.
