Five countries separate from US for fees above minimum 10% ʹ Democratic Republic of Congo (11%), Madagascar (47%), Mozambique (16%), Malaui (18%) and Syria (41%) are among the world's 26 poorest economies.
Together, these economies represent only 0.5% of global production and income, but are home to nearly 40% of the world's poor population, according to the World Bank.
In Madagascar, an island of some 25 million people on the coast of South Africa, more than 80% of the population lives in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $2.15 a day.
His exports to the U.S., which is his second largest export market, amounted to nearly 800m dollars in 2024, made mainly from vanilla, clothing, titanium, and kobalt.
Venezuela (15%), which has also experienced an economic collapse and a humanitarian crisis, relies on the US as its biggest trade partner. The U.S. imported $6 billion of goods from this South American country in 2024.
Among other countries with higher tariffs is Myanmar (44%), a Southeast Asian state that was recently hit by a massive earthquake that killed more than 3,000 people.
This country is also in a four-year civil war, triggered by a military coup, where junta forces are at war with rebel groups throughout the territory. /Periscope/
