The United Kingdom at today's session of the UN Security Council has highlighted the fact that this state has been a long-term friend of Kosovo and that the reaffirmation for Kosovo's support on the Euro-Atlantic journey was said to take place during the recent visit of the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary.
The British representative said that as supporters of Kosovo's citizenship, they welcome recognition of Kosovo's independence from Kenya, while encouraging all the states that have done so to do so as soon as possible.
“As a supporter of Kosovo's citizenship, we welcome Kenya's late recognition. We encourage all those who have recognised Kosovo's independence to do so as soon as possible”.
The UN Secretary General's report greatly highlights the fact that there is pressure on Serbs in Kosovo, it is Kosovo's successful efforts to recruit police from the Serb community. We regret that judges and prosecutors from non-US communities have not asked to return to Kosovo institutions”, the British representative said.
Furthermore, he said he encourages Kosovo and Serbia to engage constructively in dialogue, to reach a normal and legally binding agreement.
“We welcome the active participation of Kosovo Serbs in peaceful municipal elections in the coming period, and encourage Kosovo and Serbia to engage constructively with Sorensen to reach a normal and legally binding agreement by fully implementing the Brussels and Ohrid agreements”, he said.
Furthermore, the British representative urged Serbia to bring the perpetrators of KFOR's attacks to justice, the one in Banjska, and to co-operate with Kosovo to identify the leaders of the attack on Iber-Lepenci Canal.
We urge Serbia to bring to justice all those responsible for KFOR's attacks and the attack on Banjska and cooperate to investigate and identify those who have carried out the attack on Iber-Lepenc”.
Taking into account conditions on the ground that are not close to 1999, we seek revision of UNMIK's role to ensure that support for stability and security continues in Kosovo, but that reflects the world of 2025<1>, he said./Periscopi/
