Berisha: EU integration is the polar star of our programme, alone DP has integration DNA

Democratic Party Chairman Sali Berisha said today at a press conference that Albania's integration into the European Union remains an absolute priority and issue of national interest. Commenting on developments by the IV Intergovernmental Conference, which is being held in Luxembourg, Berisha stressed that the date for holding this meeting was set four months ago and does not amount to any surprise of the moment.

“Integration in the EU, we declare the issue number 1 of national interest, the polar star of our programme,”, he said.

Berisha recalled some of the main achievements during the DP government, such as visa liberalisation for Albanians, the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement, NATO membership and receiving EU candidate status.

On the other hand, Berisha sharply criticised the current government, naming <x0antidemocratic>” and accusing Prime Minister Rama of blocking the integration process.

The new German government, in synton with the French government, has clearly announced that EU enlargement remains in effect until the Union itself is reformed. And in the face of such a wall, Albania can only walk by fulfilling any criteria, any European standard, not the Turkish Minister Ball, which has turned MPs into voters,” he said.

Addressing citizens, Berisha urged that if they really want integration, they support the DP, the only force it has allegedly proved the ability to bring the country to the EU.
