After two days of NATO ministerial summit in Brussels, Secretary General NATO, Mark Rutte, in a statement has said that “consensus from the discussions of these two days is that as the world becomes more dangerous, we need it NATO more than ever.”
He says NATO faces real threats to our security, more direct from Russia, but also from others, state and non-state in the upper north, from the south, to the east wing and to cyberspace”.
“Whatever the challenges we face, we have to make sure we have the necessary forces and capabilities to prevent aggression and defend ourselves if someone makes the mistake by attacking”, he says, pledging that we will continue to increase NATO spending.
Speaking to Ukraine, Rutte says Allies “secured” country's Foreign Minister Andriy Syhbia for their continued “sot support and help build its armed forces for the future”.
He says NATO supports the US push for peace and further efforts “led by France and Great Britain” to offer guarantees led by Europe, writes The Guardian, broadcast Periscope.
He also adds that NATO ministers met with EU foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas to negotiate EU plans to step up defence spending.
He closes his word by marking the 76th anniversary of NATO's formation.
