The event has been disclosed by renowned scholar and natural and cultural heritage activist Auron Tare.
He has raised the alarm through a public post, confirming that the situation is critical and that authorities have been immediately announced.
“Police forces and fire departments have headed towards the country to help with the rescue operation,” has announced Tare, stressing the difficulties of the terrain and the danger this area poses for anyone visiting without preparation and local guidas.
At the same time, police forces from Gjirokastra equipped with fears have gone to the rescue.
He also recalls that just a day earlier, he had warned that no one would enter Nivica's canyon without the presence of a local guide.
This is a wild and high-risk area if you don't know the ground. It's not a place for free exploration,” wrote Tare.
The Spaniards reportedly had claimed that they had received permission to enter the area from the Ministry of Tourism and had decided to enter the canyon without local guides.
The Nivica Canyon is one of the most beautiful natural destinations in Albania, but also one of the most difficult for exploration.
Deepness, water flow, lack of signal, and rugged terrain are factors that make it especially dangerous for those who are not equipped with the necessary experience and equipment.
Currently, there is still no detailed information on the state of the tourist health or their exact location within the canyon.
Authorities are on the ground and are working urgently to undertake a rescue operation, while the arrival of teams specialising mountain operations and interventions in difficult terrain are expected./Periscopi/
