In this case it was said that there are about 3,500 to 4,000 stray dogs in the capital.
Mayor Rama said the municipality has done a big job managing wandering dogs, noting that in the past four years, four thousand stray dogs have been vaccinated, vaccinated, and sterilised.
He criticised the lack of central level's power support, adding that despite promises of sharing 9.8m euros for the problem so far, no amount has been spent on municipalities. Rama said the fine for those who do not abide by the contract is 3000 euros.
We're giving it up for adoption to the 1,000th dog. This is a big deal that we've done and we're continuing to do as capital for citizens. We know we've had big challenges with stray dogs and we have challenges. Last government in eight years has vaccinated and sterilized only 500 dogs, and for these three years we have achieved four thousand dogs to register, vaccinate and sterilize. We have built shelters, and hard work has been done to help the field situation. We're doing all this work without any help from the central level. They have said they have allocated 9.8m euros, but so far have spent zero budgets in aid to the Pristina municipality and other municipalities. From January to now, there have been 44 incidents, bites, from them two children, and it is a problem we have to deal with. I publicly ask the Kosovo government to join us in solving this problem, not only to establish a budget and not spend it. Only with real cooperation can we solve this problem. We have the team going and monitoring all the points that dogs have been given for adoption as to whether they have conditions”, the Pristina chairman said, EO reports, Periscope.
While director Brestovci said that despite the presence of wandering dogs in the city, there are already 1000 fewer, but stressed that a challenge remains the behaviour of dogs from other areas in Pristina.
He said that in the capital so far there are 3,500 to 4,000 stray dogs.
“whenever anyone can see dogs in Pristina today we have 1,000 fewer in Pristina. We're appealing for the central level to help us. The problem is dogs from other areas”, director Brestovci said.
Florentina Bajrami, who has so far adopted 9 dogs and has today adopted the 10th dog, expressed satisfaction with the possibility that such animals are offered for a better life.
We're very pleased that we can adapt dogs, that they have a warmer environment. I appeal to citizens not to buy dogs, but to adapt them”, Florentina Bajrami said.
